DIR Iodideis a cell membrane red probe that is a fluorescent probe used to label cell membranes. DiA, DiI, DiO, DiD, and DiR dyes are a family of lipophilic fluorescent dyes used to label cell membranes and other hydrophobic structures. When incorporated into membranes or bound to lipophilic biomolecules such as proteins, the fluorescence of these environmentally sensitive dyes is greatly enhanced, although they are weakly fluorescent in water. They have a high extinction coefficient, polarity-dependent fluorescence and a short excited state lifetime.
