用  途：医药上用作利尿剂、镇静剂，有加强大脑皮层抑制过程的作用。在合成香料、医药和染料等工业上作为溴化剂，也用作化学试剂和感光工业。
性  质：无色立方晶体或白色颗粒性粉末，属等轴晶系，无嗅、味咸而稍苦。在空气中易吸收水分而结块，但不潮解。比重3.203（25℃），熔点747℃、沸点1390℃，易溶于水、微溶于醇，其水溶液呈中性，有导电性。
