一氧化碳为一毒性气体,极微量浓度即具毒性。当空气中含有一氧化碳达0.02—0.05%(容积)时,若长时期接触,就可引致头痛、头晕、心跳加快等症状。达0.1—0.2%时,症状出现加快且加剧,甚发生呼吸困难、恶心和昏迷。达0.3—0.4%时,可危及生命,在此浓度下经过半小时一小时即能致命。苏联规定工作场所每升空气中一氧化碳的大容许量(指危害人体的近似浓度——译者)为0.02—0.03毫克。如工作时间不超过一小时,一氧化碳的大容许量达0.05毫克/升;不超过半小时者,可达0.1毫克/升;不起过15—20分钟者,可达0.2毫克/升。一氧化碳的毒性在於其与血中血红素的亲和。

Carbon monoxide is a toxic gas, and it is toxic at very small concentrations. When the air contains carbon monoxide up to 0.02-0.05% (volume), long-term exposure can cause headaches, dizziness, rapid heartbeat and other symptoms. When it reaches 0.1-0.2%, the onset of symptoms accelerates and intensifies, and even breathing difficulties, nausea and coma occur. When it reaches 0.3-0.4%, it can be life-threatening, and it can be fatal after half an hour to one hour at this concentration. The Soviet Union stipulates that the maximum allowable amount of carbon monoxide per liter of air in the workplace is 0.02-0.03 mg.
